Message from the President - February 2008
The past year has been a tremendous success for AKAMB. Our Board Members have worked diligently to reach 2007/2008 goals for growth, licensing and education. I would like to personally say "Thank You" to each of our Board Members for all of their hard work and dedication to our Organization. I would also like to extend a special "thank you" to our Legislative Committee for their hard work and determination on passage of HB162, the Mortgage Licensing Bill.  HB162 will bring licensing regulations, education and most importantly, consumer protection in the mortgage industry to the State of Alaska.

In April, we will be voting in our new Board of Directors and appointing Committee Chairman to serve the upcoming year. The Committees are; Legislation, Membership, Education, Marketing and Finance. I would like to encourage anyone who is willing to devote his or her time to serving on the Board or as a Committee Chairman to contact me at 907-357-9640 or email me at cris@akamb.org. 

AKAMB will be holding their 2008 Mortgage Professionals Annual Convention on April 4th and 5th at the Captain Cook Hotel. We have a very exciting schedule of events planned this year. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet with Lenders and professionals in the industry at the trade show. They will be providing useful information to help grow your business. We also have a presentation by the State of Alaska who will be discussing the upcoming licensing regulations and education requirements set to take effect July of 2008.  Take advantage of this opportunity and receive answers to all of your questions.  Also providing a presentation will be the FBI in reference to lending investigations in the State of Alaska.  In addition, NAMB courses education courses will be taught, by Ruth Faynor, CMC, CMRC, NAMB National Instructor. AK AMB is involved in professional certification and consumer education. We need you. In the next few months, legislation may be introduced to license mortgage brokers and originators. We want you to be pro-actively involved with us to make sure this legislation is fair to everyone involved-especially to the professionals in our industry. Also within the next few months, consumers throughout Alaska will begin to see anti-predatory lending commercials, sponsored by Freddie Mac and the Alaska Predatory Lending Task Force, of which we're also a member.
